There’s a reason Great Tythe Barn is one of the most sought-after wedding venues in the Cotswolds. Tucked away down a tree-lined driveway on the outskirts of Tetbury, this Grade II listed 16th-century barn sits within 200 acres of private Gloucestershire countryside — rolling fields, mature woodland, beautifully kept gardens and hidden quiet corners in every direction. From the moment you turn off the road and start down that driveway, the outside world disappears. It’s secluded, peaceful, and completely its own world.
I’ve been lucky enough to photograph several weddings here, and every time I’m struck by how much this venue gives you to work with as a photographer. The Cotswold countryside setting is stunning at every time of year — golden fields and cow parsley in summer, rich autumn colour in the mature trees, soft winter light on the stone buildings. Inside, the fairy light canopy in the barn creates one of the most romantic ceremony backdrops in the county. And by the time the sun starts to set behind the Tythe House, the whole place glows.

I also love creating dramatic portraits when the moment is right — a veil caught in the wind on the gravel path, the last golden light against the Tythe House, the barn glowing under a winter sky.

I’ll make sure you’re comfortable and make the experience as fun and enjoyable as possible, whilst paying attention to the best light, flattering angles and beautiful backdrops. It’s quick, it’s relaxed, and then you’re back mingling with your guests.
For the rest of the day, I work quietly around you capturing candid moments. The laughter during the speeches, the looks between you during the ceremony, the dance floor chaos at midnight — I’m capturing all of it without getting in the way. For bridal prep, the cottages are charming. Low oak beams, wooden doors, whitewashed walls — they feel cosy and intimate, and they photograph beautifully in natural light. It’s where the day begins, and some of my favourite images come from these quiet moments: a bridesmaid fastening a dress, the first look in the mirror, the last cup of tea before everything starts.
Ceremonies — Inside the Barn and Out on the Lawn
Great Tythe Barn is licensed for ceremonies in six different spaces, which means you have genuine flexibility depending on the season, the size of your wedding, and the weather.
Inside, the main barn is breathtaking. The vaulted ceiling soars above you, draped in a canopy of fairy lights that cascade from the apex down to the Newnton Gallery mezzanine. The exposed Cotswold stone walls and original oak beams create an atmosphere that’s both grand and warm. Up to 200 guests can be seated for your ceremony, and the light through the tall glass entrance doors is beautiful.
For summer weddings, the Oak Wedding Pavilion is set on the lawn within the walled garden — a gorgeous oak-framed structure backed by mature trees and dry stone walls.
The Tythe House Orangery offers a third option for smaller, more intimate ceremonies — light-filled, elegant, with French doors opening onto private gardens.
Confetti and Drinks on the Courtyard
After the ceremony, the natural flow at Great Tythe Barn takes your guests out through the tall glass doors and onto the gravel courtyard — which is where some of the most energetic, fun moments of the day happen.
The confetti shots here are always brilliant — the Cotswold stone barn provides a warm, textured backdrop, and if you time it right the sunshine lights up every petal. Drinks flow, guests mingle on the lawns, and there’s a wonderful, relaxed energy to the whole thing.
This is also when I’ll take you away briefly for couple portraits — and at Great Tythe Barn there’s no shortage of backdrops. With 200 acres of private grounds, the options are endless. The Tythe House frontage glows in golden hour light. The dry stone walls and Cotswold stone barns give you warm, textured backdrops. The mature trees and sheltered garden paths create dappled, romantic woodland settings that many of my couples tell me were one of the reasons they chose this venue. And beyond the gardens, the open countryside stretches out in every direction — rolling fields, wildflower meadows, and that beautiful Cotswold light.

I always make a point of shooting from the Newnton Gallery mezzanine during the wedding breakfast. It’s a vantage point that shows the full scale of the barn — the oak beam structure, the fairy lights draping down, the tables below — and it gives you an image you simply can’t get from ground level.

Evening, Dancing and the Fire Pit
As the evening draws in, Great Tythe Barn transforms. The barn floor clears for dancing, the stage is set for a band or DJ, and the fairy lights come into their own against the darkened stone.
