Cripps Barn Wedding Photographer

Cripps Barn is one of those venues that gets under your skin. The warmth of the candlelit stone barn, the flower wheels hanging overhead, that view from the terrace out across open countryside with nothing but fields and sky — every time I drive down that narrow lane to get here, I remember why I love this place.

If you’re looking for a Cripps Barn wedding photographer who truly knows this venue, you’re in the right place. I’ve photographed over twenty weddings here across every season and in every weather, and it’s one of the venues I know best. But before I talk about the photography, I want to talk about you — because that’s where it all starts.

I know that planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time. There are a hundred decisions to make and you’re trusting people you’ve never worked with before to help bring your vision to life. I also know that most people aren’t comfortable in front of a camera — and that when you look through my portfolio, it’s easy to think “those couples must be so confident and photogenic, that could never be me.” I hear that all the time. And it’s never true.

I’ll guide you through it. I know exactly where the light falls at Cripps Barn at every time of day — whether that’s the golden glow of the fireplace, the dappled shade of the Oak Pavilion, or the last light over the sunset meadow. I’ll put you in the right spot, give you something to do, and the natural moments happen by themselves. It’s quick, it’s relaxed, and then you’re back by the fire pit with your guests.

For the rest of the day, I work quietly around you. The laughter during the speeches, the looks between you during the ceremony, the dance floor chaos at midnight — I’m capturing all of it without getting in the way. My couples often tell me the photos show moments they didn’t even know were happening.

What matters most to me is that your photos feel like your day — warm, joyful, and full of the emotion that made it special. My style is colourful, documentary-artistic, and natural. I also love creating dramatic portraits when the moment is right — a veil caught in the wind on the country lane, the last golden light across the meadow, the barn glowing against a winter sky.

This is just a taster of what a Cripps Barn wedding looks like through my lens.

The Ceremony

Cripps Barn Wedding Ceremony

Couples can marry inside the barn or outside in the Oak Pavilion, and I have photographed beautiful ceremonies in both settings.

Inside, the ceremony takes place in the main stone barn. The space is atmospheric in the best possible way — flagstone floors, Cotswold stone walls, candlelit sconces, and a huge stone fireplace at the front. The barn has real height to it too, with oak beams rising overhead and a greenery wheel or floral installation hanging above you. It feels intimate despite holding up to 120 guests, and the warm candlelight makes it incredibly flattering to photograph.

For summer weddings, the Oak Pavilion is a wonderful alternative. It sits in a woodland glade in the gardens, sheltered under a beautiful oak canopy with a shingled roof. Couples dress it with flowers — I have seen everything from simple greenery to extraordinary floral arches — and guests are seated on wooden chairs with the trees surrounding them. The light filters through the leaves and the whole setting feels magical.

The Grounds

Cripps Barn Grounds and Gardens

The grounds at Cripps Barn are as photogenic as the barn itself, and that is what makes it such a special venue for photography.

There are so many distinct locations within a short walk: the formal gardens with sculpted hedges, the woodland garden with mature trees and autumn leaves underfoot, the Oak Pavilion, and then beyond the stone walls, open countryside stretching to the horizon.

The gravel courtyard next to the car park, with its distinctive black corrugated iron building, has become one of my favourite spots for group photos and bridal party portraits. It has an industrial-rustic feel that works brilliantly as a backdrop, especially when there is a vintage car involved.

One of the things I love most about Cripps Barn is how beautiful it looks in every season and in every weather. Rain, sun, autumn colour, summer wildflowers — it all works. The meadow beyond the garden wall is where I take couples for sunset portraits when the light is right, and on a good evening the sky over those open Cotswold fields is extraordinary.

The Barn and Oak Room

Inside Cripps Barn

The barn itself has several connected spaces that flow naturally through the day. The main stone barn, where ceremonies take place, transforms into the dance floor for the evening. Through a wide archway flanked by greenery and fairy lights, you step into the Oak Room — a light, timber-framed dining room with a vaulted ceiling, oak trusses, and a huge greenery wheel chandelier.

The Oak Room seats up to 150 guests for the wedding breakfast and it photographs beautifully — warm lighting from the wall sconces, fairy lights draped across the ceiling, and those solid oak beams framing everything. Cripps Barn uses rustic wooden tables for the top table and round white-clothed tables for guests, and the overall feel is relaxed and welcoming.

The Food

Cripps Barn Wedding Food

Food is a huge part of the Cripps Barn experience and it is something I always make a point of photographing. The venue is famous for its outdoor cooking — whole chickens turning slowly on a giant rotisserie, meat searing over the open grill, all of it cooked by the in-house chefs using the best ingredients. The smell alone gets guests excited.

The wedding breakfast is served feast-style, with generous sharing platters brought to each table — charcuterie boards, fresh bread, seasonal dishes. It suits the relaxed, communal atmosphere of the barn perfectly and it makes for wonderful candid photography as guests pass plates and pour wine.

Evening and Dancing

Cripps Barn Evening Reception

As the sun goes down, the grounds take on a completely different character. Guests gather around the fire pit with drinks, the fairy-lit trees glow against the darkening sky, and the barn windows spill warm light across the flagstone terrace.

Inside, the main barn transforms into the dance floor for the evening. With its late licence until 1am, there is plenty of time for the party to build. I stay to capture the first dance, the packed dance floor, and — if couples want one — a sparkler send-off outside the barn doors.
